DGhK - Die Deutsche Gesellschaft für das hochbegabte Kind e.V.
The DGhK e.V. (German Society for Gifted Children) is a nationwide non-profit association in which affected parents, educators, psychologists and other interested parties volunteer to support gifted children. The DGhK e.V. was founded in 1978 by initiative of the teacher Dr. Annette Heinbokel. The aim was to create a contact point for parents, teachers and interested parties. In addition, it arose from the experience that gifted children can develop problems at school and in social interactions if their intellectual needs were not met for a long time and the children were therefore unable to develop their abilities. However, if the children are allowed to ask, read, learn and experiment as much as suits their needs, they usually have no more or fewer problems than other children.
The federal association now includes fourteen independent and non-profit regional associations - with over 3,000 members, with each member representing an entire family or the contact to a school or institution. Together we are committed to supporting gifted children and young people nationwide.
The purpose of the association is achieved through:
- Coaching for parents of gifted children
- Parent discussion groups
- Support offers and events for gifted children
- Coaching and training for teachers and educators
- Publication of the club magazine "Labyrinth"
- Development of educational policy requirements
- Networking with domestic and foreign organizations
