The functionality, stability and integrity of the German financial market - that is what BaFin stands for.
As an integrated supervisory authority, it supervises credit and financial services institutions, insurance companies, pension funds, asset management companies, payment and e-money institutions as well as German branches of foreign credit institutions from the European Economic Area.To ensure that bank customers, policyholders and investors can trust in the financial system, it ensures that fair and transparent conditions prevail and that market participants comply with the relevant laws.
As the national resolution authority, BaFin has extensive powers to resolve institutions in an orderly manner.
It also has a wide range of tasks in the context of collective consumer protection.
